'Angels walk among us' - Printables

Lisa from the Merchandise DT joins us today, with a Christmas project in striking non-traditional colours.

Can you believe that Christmas is almost upon us? Hope your preparations are going well. Today I thought that I would make my festive contribution with a little inspiration using the beautiful Printables. Taking angels as the theme I decided that a pretty colour palette of pinks, greens and gold would help deliver a delicate vintage canvas to compliment my Christmas decor.

How it was done:

Print the 'angels' along with some elements from 'travel' and 'postcards' onto smooth white card . Print the 'music' sheet and 'antique page'  onto plain rice paper.

The background:

Using the travel and postcard elements, cut out and lay onto the canvas to create a textural  first layer. Stick down using matt medium.

Once the background collage is dry, lightly coat with white gesso and then use the three stencils with texture paste to create added texture .

Add another thin layer of white gesso and using torn pieces of the music script rice paper stick down randomly.

Using the ink sprays spray on different parts of the canvas and when dry splatter black, white and gold ink on top. When you are satisfied with the colour, using white gesso and a sponge lighten around the edges of the canvas.

Adhere the script rice paper to the centre of the canvas and then using black ink and the script stamp stamp around the edges.

To add a final touch of background texture adhere a mixture of gems and gold micro beads in areas around the centre.

The elements:

Cut out the tall angel picture and fussy cut the seated angel removing her wings. Distress the edges of the main picture, add watercolour highlights to both angels and ink the edges in pink.

Die cut the frame in gold metallic card and create an additional frame to be added on top by twisting gold wire.

Paint the greyboard wings using  dark grey paint then add a layer of crackle paste. (sometimes I add a layer of weathered wood gel under the paste to speed up the crackle). When the crackle is dry paint in buff acrylic and then highlight with distress ink and gold glitter kiss.

Die cut the fir trees and spruce branches and add a little white flower soft and gold glitter.

Putting it together:

Cut out the sentiments and edge in pink . Add some colour highlights to the stencilled areas using alcohol markers. Set out the composition and stick down using glue gel or heat gun. I added some berries and mulberry flowers to the die cuts to add a little freshness. Finally I sprinkled additional gems and spread a little glitter kiss to the top of the canvas and to the features. It is Christmas after all!

Hope you all have a happy holiday season. Till next time.

Lisa xx
