Hello Everyone Debs here with a journal page using fabulous stamps from our sponsor this month Sin City.
To start - I cut up patterned card into different sizes, ensuring that the edges were cut straight, and then stuck them onto my page with a heavy Matt Medium. After drying It with a heat gun, I scraped white Gesso over the page. This not only knocked back the images on the card but also provided a good key for the next layers.
Step 2 - I chose 3 colours that are close together on the colour wheel to ensure I didn’t make mud (if you mix your primary colours of Red, Blue and Yellow in any combination, you will make brown. For example, if you mix Purple -Red and Blue with Orange - Red and Yellow, you will get brown). I chose Blue, Yellow and Green, and 3Stencils, to build up lots of layers. I completely dried this before changing my colours.
Step 3 - I scraped on some more White Gesso, to again knock back the colours and to add more interest. Once dry I used spray Chalks in Gold and Lilac.
I let the colours run and drip before again drying.
Step 4 - I repeated step 3, with more Gesso, and sprays until I felt I had the background filled enough to host the feature stamps. I added some circles with a bottle top still using paint, for more interest, and with black ink I started stamping. First some script randomly over the page, then the main features. I heat set the ink before adding colour to the elements, including the circles. To finish I added a sentiment.
The materials I used
Stamps Sin City Correspondence (Katy Leitch)
Acrylic Paint Ranger (Dina Wakley)
Stencils 13@rts (Marta Łapkowska)
Watercolour Paint Jane Davenport
I loved creating this page and got very messy, which for me is what it’s all about.
